Winspace G5 Gravel Bike: 58mm Tyre Clearance at Half the Price of Premium Rivals
Chinese cycling manufacturer Winspace has unveiled its latest gravel racing platform, the G5, which pairs aerodynamic design and competitive handling with the ability to accommodate exceptionally wide tyres.
The G5 succeeds the brand’s earlier G3 gravel model and features a frame constructed from a blend of T1100 and T800 carbon fibre. According to Winspace, a medium-sized frame tips the scales at just 950g, while tyre clearance reaches an impressive 58mm.
Six frame sizes and four colour options are offered, with the geometry tailored specifically for rapid gravel riding rather than bikepacking adventures.
Pricing for the frameset begins at £1,650 / $2,200 / €1,933, or $2,350 when bundled with Winspace’s Adventure Handlebar. This positions it well below competitors such as Factor’s recently introduced Elara, which carries a starting price of $5,999 / €7,199 for its frame package.
Complete builds span from $4,799 for a Shimano GRX RX825 Di2 configuration up to $5,999 for the flagship SRAM Force AXS variant. Both include the Adventure Handlebar and Lún GRAPID 2 wheels. Sitting between them is a SRAM Rival AXS model at $5,199.
These figures make the G5 an attractive proposition compared with Specialized’s S-Works Crux 5 equipped with Red AXS XPLR at £11,999 / $14,000, or Cannondale’s SuperX Lab71 at £10,800 / $12,499.
For those venturing beyond tame gravel surfaces, an optional suspension fork is available. The RockShox Rudy Ultimate XPLR provides 30mm of travel and a full lockout function for an extra $500.
Winspace represents one of several Chinese cycling companies making inroads into Western markets, having established itself through carbon frames and components alongside its Lún wheel division.
Wide tyre clearance meets aerodynamic design
Perhaps the G5’s standout specification is its tyre capacity. Winspace states the frame can fit 58mm rubber up front and 53mm at the rear, offering substantially more room for wide tyres than many gravel race bikes currently available.
The brand has not disclosed which rim and tyre combination was used to determine these clearance measurements, meaning real-world compatibility will probably vary depending on the chosen setup.
Frame construction combines T1100 and T800 carbon fibre, with the stated 950g weight referring to an unpainted, uncut medium frame.
Across the six available sizes, head tube angles span from 70.5 degrees on the XS to 71.5 degrees on larger models. Seat angle remains constant at 73.5 degrees throughout the range, while chainstay length varies between 423mm and 427mm.
Winspace has equipped the G5 with fully integrated cable routing, a T47 threaded 68mm bottom bracket, and a 1-1/2in FSA ACR headset system. Internal storage is accessible via a removable magnetic cover.
The frame accommodates flat-mount disc brakes with 160mm rotors at both ends, and a 180mm front rotor can also be fitted. Axle spacing measures 12x100mm front and 12x142mm rear, with compatibility for both mechanical and electronic groupsets. Maximum chainring sizes are 50T for 1x configurations and 48/36T for 2x setups.
The optional Rudy Ultimate XPLR fork is designed as a bolt-on upgrade. According to the brand, its 30mm of travel helps absorb vibrations from rough terrain while maintaining a full lockout for smoother roads and climbing efforts.
Combining race-oriented geometry, aerodynamic efficiency, generous tyre clearance and accessible pricing, the G5 presents an intriguing option on paper.
