Wilier Unveils Budget-Friendly Filante SL ID2 Aero Road Bike with WorldTour-Level Aerodynamics
Wilier Triestina has expanded its Filante lineup with the introduction of the Filante SL ID2, a more budget-conscious sibling to the range-topping Filante SLR ID2 that competes in the WorldTour. The Italian manufacturer has carried over the aerodynamic profile and race-focused geometry from its flagship model, but swapped in a different carbon layup to bring the cost down.
That said, this is hardly an entry-level machine. Pricing kicks off at €4,800, which places it slightly above the Rapida that arrived in May. Wilier positions the new arrival as “the ideal gateway to the Filante universe.”
When Ashley Quinlan reviewed the SLR ID2, the steep asking price was his primary gripe, though he otherwise praised the bike for feeling “as fast and as agile as it looks.”
Matching the Top Model’s Speed
The Filante SLR ID2 was unveiled in October 2025, with Wilier claiming a 13.6% aerodynamic improvement over the previous generation. In practical terms, that translates to a savings of just over 14 watts when riding at 40kph.
Because the new SL variant retains identical aerodynamics to the bike raced by Groupama-FDJ United, those watt savings should carry straight over, reinforcing what Wilier describes as its “racing character.”
That competitive DNA extends to the frame geometry as well, which Wilier says “delivers precise handling, stability at high speeds and a natural response to change in pace.”
In a medium size, the bike features an aggressive 541mm stack and a 992.9mm wheelbase. According to Ashley, this stretched wheelbase lends the Filante a “planted feel” when compared with tighter, more compact race machines.
At the time of writing, Wilier has not disclosed the weight of the Filante SL ID2 frameset.
Built for Modern Riding
Wilier describes the Filante SL ID2 as “designed for today’s cycling” — a phrase that hints at how the bike aligns with current road bike trends.
Like its SLR counterpart, the new model accepts tyres up to 34mm wide. This added clearance boosts versatility and puts it on par with the Cervélo S5 and the Eddy Merckx 525R, which earned our 2026 Race Bike of the Year award.
At the rear, the bike uses a Universal Derailleur Hanger, and the front derailleur mount can be removed entirely, allowing compatibility with SRAM’s full-mount 1×13 groupsets.
Additionally, the Filante SL ID2 comes equipped with Wilier’s new R-Bar cockpit, which features fully integrated cable routing and drops that flare outward by 3cm “for improved ergonomics, control and aerodynamic.”
The bike also ships with the new Aerokit SL, an integrated bottle system modeled after the Aerokit SLR found on the top-tier Filante SLR. The key difference is that the SL version accommodates standard round bottles rather than aero-optimized ones. Riders seeking “maximum aerodynamic efficiency” can upgrade to the Aerokit SLR.
Pricing and Build Options
At launch, the Wilier Filante SL ID2 will be offered in four colourways and four complete builds. Every bike includes the Aerokit SL and a computer mount.
