Garmin Unveils Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro: Brighter Screens, Speedier Maps, and Expanded Endurance Capabilities
Garmin has refreshed its premier outdoor smartwatch lineup with the introduction of the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro, delivering more luminous screens, quicker map rendering, and fresh features tailored toward endurance training.
Both models now feature AMOLED displays, which Garmin claims are twice as bright as the previous generation. The Fenix 9 Pro steps things up further with a titanium casing, a screen capable of reaching 3,000 nits, and the option for inReach satellite and LTE connectivity.
According to Susan Lyman, Garmin’s Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing, these watches are “purpose-built for those who want to perform better and venture farther.”
The devices cater directly to endurance athletes and outdoor enthusiasts, with particular appeal for cyclists and runners.
Buyers can choose from 43mm, 47mm, and 51mm case sizes. The standard Fenix 9 starts at £859.99 / $999.99 for the smaller two sizes, while the 51mm version is priced at £949.99 / $1,099.
The Fenix 9 Pro and Fenix 9 Pro Solar retail for £949.99 / $1,099.99 in 43mm and 47mm, with the 51mm option costing £1,029.99 / $1,199.99.
**Enhanced Display and Navigation Performance**
The Fenix 9’s AMOLED screen is built to remain legible even in harsh sunlight, and Garmin has boosted the watch’s RAM by 50% relative to the Fenix 8.
A revamped map engine reportedly allows users to pan across maps up to 30% faster, and a new perspective view reveals greater detail both nearby and further along a planned route.
Onboard storage has been doubled to 64GB, which Garmin says lets users download twice as many maps and hold up to 7,000 songs.
A new feature called Garmin Epic enables users to merge several activities into one unified story within Garmin Connect. This could prove valuable for multi-day events, cycling tours, or training cycles, combining activities, health metrics, and photos into what amounts to a single activity.
Garmin has also rolled out stamina zones and a stamina curve, which illustrate how endurance shifts over time and help athletes grasp how training and fitness improvements affect performance.
**Titanium Construction and Advanced Connectivity**
The top-tier Fenix 9 Pro features a titanium case manufactured using Garmin’s nano-moulding technique, which bonds metal and plastic together.
Its AMOLED display reaches up to 3,000 nits, and the 51mm variant sports a 1.5-inch screen — the largest ever fitted to a Fenix watch. According to the brand, this larger display expands the viewing area by 15% without requiring a bigger case.
Solar-charging variants are offered, and the built-in LED flashlight now includes a green-light mode designed to protect night vision.
The Pro line also brings built-in inReach functionality to the Fenix family for the first time, allowing compatible models to place calls, send messages, and trigger SOS alerts without needing a phone. Garmin is making inReach-enabled versions available across all three Pro case sizes.
LTE connectivity enables location sharing via Garmin Messenger, while satellite connectivity can push weather forecasts straight to the watch.
Garmin rates the largest Fenix 9 for up to 29 days of smartwatch battery life, while the 51mm Fenix 9 Pro is rated for up to 31 days. Solar editions can extend this to as much as 57 days under Garmin’s specified conditions.
