On September 10, 2026, IKEA announced a surprising collaboration with the beloved video game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, releasing a free mod titled “Kallax Storageborn.” The mod, officially initiated by IKEA, introduces a fully self-aware Kallax storage shelf companion that players can acquire within the game. The character is voiced by British actor Matt Berry, known for his distinctive and humorous vocal style.
The mod offers far more than a simple decorative item. It includes brand-new quests, unique loot such as the Hex Blade and the Meatball Helmet, and entirely new enemies for players to encounter. The central premise revolves around a clever twist: when the player’s carrying capacity exceeds its limit, they are transported to an abandoned Dwemer trading post, where the main questline begins. There, players must confront the ultimate threat known simply as “the Clutter.”
The Kallax shelf companion itself functions as a portable storage solution. It can hold loot, be summoned at will, and effectively eliminates the long-standing frustration of inventory limitations that Skyrim players have endured for years. This partnership between a real-world furniture giant and a fantasy role-playing game has generated significant buzz among both gaming and design communities, blending practicality with playful digital creativity in an unexpected way.
