Guoxing Aerospace Sends Off First 8 Satellites of “Star Computing” Plan Group 02
On September 1, Guoxing Aerospace held a send-off ceremony for the first batch of eight satellites belonging to Group 02 of its “Star Computing” (Xingsuan) plan at the Computing Satellite Innovation Base in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. The satellites, all independently developed by the company, have passed comprehensive end-to-end testing conducted by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), with every performance metric meeting the required standards. They are scheduled to be launched in the near future at an appropriate time.
Once in orbit, the eight satellites will join the Group 01 satellites that were launched in May 2025 to form a coordinated network, advancing the large-scale deployment of what is billed as the world’s first space computing constellation. The “Star Computing” plan ultimately envisions a future computing network composed of 2,800 computing-capable satellites, according to the company.
The send-off marks another step forward in China’s commercial space sector’s push to integrate satellite technology with artificial intelligence and distributed computing. By placing computing power directly in orbit, the constellation aims to enable data processing in space rather than relying solely on ground-based data centers, potentially reducing latency and improving efficiency for applications such as remote sensing, navigation, and real-time Earth observation.
Guoxing Aerospace has positioned the “Star Computing” initiative as a key pillar of its long-term strategy to build a space-based computing infrastructure. The Group 02 satellites are expected to enhance the constellation’s overall capacity and lay the groundwork for scaling up to the full 2,800-satellite network in the years ahead.
