CITIC Securities Authorizes Increase in Subsidiary’s Registered Capital to Up to 20 Billion Yuan
On September 7, CITIC Securities’ board of directors passed a resolution authorizing its management to flexibly adjust the registered capital of its wholly-owned subsidiary, CITIC Securities Investment Co., Ltd., raising the ceiling to 20 billion yuan. This move is designed to strengthen the subsidiary’s capacity to invest in cutting-edge technology sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and new materials.
Currently, the subsidiary’s registered capital stands at 13 billion yuan. In the first half of 2026, it reported revenue of 2.655 billion yuan, a year-on-year surge of 1,020.25%, while net profit reached 1.975 billion yuan, up 766.99% compared to the same period last year. The authorization covers decisions on staged or installment-based capital increases or reductions, with no fixed time limit imposed.
CITIC Securities Investment operates as the dedicated platform for equity investments using CITIC Securities’ own funds. Its registered capital scale already ranks first among alternative investment subsidiaries of securities firms in the industry. The latest adjustment underscores the company’s strategic push into high-growth, technology-intensive industries, aligning with broader national efforts to boost innovation and self-reliance in key areas.
Analysts view the move as a proactive response to growing demand for long-term capital in emerging fields. By enlarging the financial buffer of its investment arm, CITIC Securities aims to seize opportunities in sectors that require substantial upfront funding and extended incubation periods. The authorization grants management the flexibility to time capital injections or withdrawals based on market conditions and project pipelines, without the need for repeated board approvals.
The decision comes amid a broader trend among major Chinese brokerages to expand their proprietary investment operations, particularly in areas tied to national industrial policy. CITIC Securities, as one of the largest and most influential players in the sector, is positioning itself to lead in financing breakthrough technologies while generating robust returns for its shareholders.
Given the substantial revenue and profit growth already achieved in the first half of 2026, the capital increase is expected to further accelerate deal-making and portfolio expansion. It also signals confidence in the sustained momentum of China’s innovation-driven economy, even as global markets face volatility. The lack of a sunset clause in the authorization suggests a long-term strategic commitment rather than a short-term tactical move.
Industry insiders note that the move could also raise the competitive bar among peers, prompting other large securities firms to follow suit with similar capital injections into their own investment vehicles. As the landscape evolves, CITIC Securities’ early and decisive action may set the tone for how brokerages channel proprietary funds into tomorrow’s defining technologies.
