Steam Link 2.17.8 Beta Lands on Quest: Adds USB-C Wired Streaming Support
On September 6, 2026, Valve rolled out the 2.17.8 public beta for its Steam Link application on Meta Quest platforms. This update, developed by Valve, introduces a new USB-C wired streaming feature that allows users to connect their PC to the Quest headset via high-speed cable for streaming SteamVR games, delivering improved stability and reduced latency.
The beta also addresses several existing issues, including a flickering loading animation that occurred at low frame rates and an error in the SteamVR settings that displayed incorrect frame rate values.
To access these new features, users must first join the Steam Link public beta channel through the Horizon Store, then switch SteamVR to the Beta version within the Steam client on their PC. Only after completing these steps can they take advantage of the wired streaming capability, which works alongside the existing wireless option to offer a more flexible VR gaming experience.
Valve has emphasized that the USB-C wired mode is particularly beneficial for users who experience network congestion or prefer a more stable connection for demanding VR titles. Early testers have reported noticeable improvements in tracking precision and overall responsiveness when using a certified USB 3.0 or higher cable.
The public beta is available now for Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest Pro owners, and Valve expects to roll out the stable release in the coming weeks once community feedback has been gathered. The update is free and does not require any additional hardware beyond a compatible USB-C cable.
