GTA 6 Insider Special Dominates Netflix Charts Worldwide

On September 2, 2026, Netflix released viewership figures for its exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Grand Theft Auto VI, titled “GTA 6: A Substantial Glimpse.” According to the streaming platform, the special feature amassed 31.1 million views within its first week of availability, ranking it at number one in 87 out of 93 global markets by August 30.

Interestingly, the trailer also made its way to YouTube approximately six hours after its Netflix debut, where it has already accumulated 17 million views. However, direct comparisons between the two platforms are complicated by differing measurement standards. YouTube counts a view when a video is played for at least one second, whereas Netflix calculates views based on total watch time divided by the runtime of the content, yielding an equivalent of complete viewings.

This measurement discrepancy makes it difficult to stack this trailer’s performance against the two earlier promotional videos released for the game. For context, the first official GTA 6 trailer pulled in 93 million views on its debut day alone on YouTube, while the second trailer has amassed over 475 million cumulative views on the platform.

The game itself is scheduled for release on November 19, with a standard edition priced at $80 and an ultimate edition available for $100. The Netflix special, which offers players a closer look at the game’s development and features, was widely anticipated by the gaming community and appears to have significantly boosted engagement on both streaming and video-sharing platforms.

Analysts note that the dual-platform strategy—first debuting on Netflix, then transitioning to YouTube—allows Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two Interactive to reach both traditional video game audiences on YouTube and a broader entertainment-focused audience on Netflix. The strong performance on Netflix, in particular, suggests that interest in the Grand Theft Auto franchise extends well beyond the core gaming demographic.
