How to Use Park Tool Pumps and Inflators with Clik Valves
The majority of Park Tool’s pump and inflator lineup is fully compatible with Clik valves. Below you’ll find everything you need to know about pairing these tools with this newer valve standard.
What Are Clik Valves?
Clik® valves represent a relatively recent innovation in valve stem design, created to solve some of the most frequent complaints cyclists have about Presta valves. Traditional Presta stems are known for their delicate tips that snap off easily, and getting a secure, consistent connection between different tubes and pump heads can be a real headache. Clik valves take a different approach: instead of relying on a locking lever to clamp onto the stem, a Clik-compatible pump head simply snaps into place with a click and releases by pulling straight off.
With its streamlined design and support from major brands like Schwalbe, the Clik valve has the potential to gain serious traction among cyclists—and perhaps even among bike manufacturers. That said, whenever a new proprietary standard enters the cycling world, one of the first questions people ask is whether their existing gear will still work.
Will Your Park Tool Equipment Work?
The good news is yes. Clik valves share the same outer diameter as standard Presta valves, which means they can be inflated with virtually any Presta-compatible pump—Park Tool models included.
Using Travel Pumps
With a portable pump like the PMP-3.2, a Clik valve functions exactly like a regular Presta valve. Set the pump up for Presta mode, keep the handle in the down position, and press the pump head firmly onto the valve. Then raise the handle to lock it in place, and you’re ready to pump. When you’re done, push the handle back down and pull the pump straight off.
Using Floor Pumps
The Park Tool PFP-10 features a single-hole universal head. Push the head completely onto the valve, and it will inflate the tire while providing a precise pressure reading on the gauge.
If you have an older Park Tool floor pump equipped with a dual-opening head—similar to the one on the PFP-8—it will still inflate a Clik valve. However, keep in mind that the gauge won’t display an accurate tire pressure reading in this configuration.
Using Shop Inflators
For the INF-2, simply press the Presta side of the head fully onto the Clik valve. Squeeze the trigger as you normally would, and the tire will fill with air.
One important tip: if the valve isn’t seated completely inside the head, the tire may still inflate, but the pressure shown on the gauge could be off. Always double-check that the valve is fully engaged before relying on the reading.
The Bottom Line
Clik valves are designed to play nicely with the tools you already own. Whether you’re using a compact travel pump, a workshop floor pump, or a professional-grade shop inflator from Park Tool, you can inflate Clik-equipped tires without needing to buy new equipment. Just make sure the valve is properly seated, and in most cases, you won’t notice any difference from inflating a standard Presta valve.
