Vision SC 45 i30 Gravel Wheels: Aero Performance at a Sub-£1,000 Price Point
Vision has introduced a fresh gravel wheelset that has already proven itself in elite competition. The SC 45 i30 has been ridden by Norwegian gravel specialist Marius Røren, who races under Merida sponsorship, as well as Australian ultra-endurance cyclist Lachlan Morton.
This new offering from Vision follows the industry’s current design philosophy for gravel wheels, combining a deeper aerodynamic rim profile with a generous internal width that accommodates modern 50mm gravel tyres. According to Vision, the SC 45 i30 has been purpose-built to work optimally with today’s wider gravel rubber. This claim aligns with ETRTO guidelines for a 30mm hooked internal rim bed.
The rim itself measures 45mm in depth and 38.5mm across externally, while featuring a 30mm hooked internal profile. Vision has matched this rim to its V-200 hubset, which utilises sealed cartridge bearings—two at the front and four at the rear—housed within oversized shells.
The hub flanges are specifically engineered for straight-pull spoke compatibility. The wheelset employs bladed aerodynamic spokes laced in a 2:1 cross pattern. A robust three-pawl freehub mechanism handles power transfer, while press-fit end caps simplify maintenance—an important consideration for a wheelset designed to withstand demanding off-road conditions.
Røren put the new Vision hoops through their paces at this year’s Rift gravel race in Iceland, a gruelling 200km event where he secured fourth place. Reflecting on the experience, he remarked: “They sure took a lot of beating. I’m a heavy rider, and when riding in a fast group on a place like this, you need to pay attention constantly.”
He continued: “If the rider in front of you jumps, you also jump. But sometimes you don’t see what’s coming and just have to ride over it. Then you need to rely on the equipment to hold. And this setup held up perfectly.”
Vision claims the SC 45 i30 wheelset weighs 1,542g per pair. However, the test sample tipped the scales at 735g for the front and 861g for the rear, totalling 1,596g including tubeless valves and rim tape.
The SC 45 i30 appears to be a compelling option for gravel riders, particularly given its competitive pricing of £949.99 or €1,249. This positions it well below several comparable wide aero gravel wheelsets on the market. For instance, Newmen’s G62 wheels carry a price tag of £1,499 or €1,690, while Zipp’s 303 XPLR SW commands £1,600, $2,100, or €1,800. Hunt’s Limitless 40 Gravel Aero wheels are priced even higher at £1,849, $2,279, or €2,279.
The Vision SC 45 i30 specification includes a full-carbon 45mm-deep rim, Vision V-200 hubs with a three-pawl design, 2:1 aero bladed direct-pull spokes, and six sealed cartridge bearings split between front and rear. The wheelset features a Centerlock rotor mount and is available with Shimano HG, Shimano Microspline, or SRAM XDR freehub options. The claimed weight remains 1,542g per pair.
With its combination of aerodynamic efficiency, wide internal profile, and wallet-friendly pricing, the SC 45 i30 represents a strong value proposition in the growing gravel wheelset market.
