Orbea Unveils Eight Bespoke Orca Aero Bikes for Vuelta, One for Every Lotto-Intermarché Rider
Ahead of the Vuelta a España’s departure from Monaco, Orbea has revealed that every rider on its sponsored Lotto-Intermarché squad will be aboard a uniquely painted Orca Aero during the team presentation held the day before the race officially begins.
These individually designed Orca Aero machines serve as a showcase for Orbea’s MyOrbea Custom configuration platform, with each livery developed through the brand’s online tool. According to Orbea, any customer can replicate the exact colour schemes and component selections chosen by the professional riders.
Half of the eight designs feature a tinted visible carbon finish, while the remaining four utilise solid base colours—a choice Orbea says delivers a more striking visual impression.
The eight custom-coloured bikes earmarked for the team are as follows:
The newest iteration of the Orca Aero debuted shortly before this year’s Tour de France and boasts the most generous tyre clearance of any professional racing bike, accommodating up to 37mm—the maximum width permitted in road racing under UCI regulations. Orbea claims the updated model is 21 watts quicker than the 2022 Orca Aero once a rider is on board, positioning it among the fastest bikes in the pro peloton.
Part of that speed advantage stems from a substantial 78mm bottom bracket drop and geometry engineered to enhance positional stability while minimising the rider’s frontal area. The frame’s frontal profile has also been trimmed, and a keel has been incorporated at the bottom bracket.
For the Vuelta, Lotto-Intermarché will sport a special team kit to prevent any visual clash with the race leader’s red jersey. The alternative design uses a deeper pink-red hue compared to the squad’s standard jersey, and Orbea confirms the bikes’ paint schemes were selected to complement it.
