Continental Expands Grand Prix Lineup with New 32mm Option as Wider Tyre Demand Climbs
Continental is broadening its Grand Prix range with the introduction of a 32mm variant, joining the existing 28mm and 30mm sizes in the mid-tier, all-purpose, tube-type lineup.
The Grand Prix features Conti’s BlackChili rubber formulation paired with a three-ply casing. According to the manufacturer, this combination delivers reduced rolling resistance alongside solid puncture defense and reliable traction.
For riders who prefer tubeless setups, the Grand Prix TR already offers a 32mm option alongside its 25mm, 28mm and 30mm versions. This means the newly added Grand Prix size provides another wider choice specifically for those who ride with inner tubes.
A steady push toward wider rubber
Continental has gradually been expanding wider options throughout its catalog. The flagship Grand Prix 5000 S TR has long been offered in 32mm, and back in March, the brand introduced a 35mm version of that tyre just before this year’s Paris-Roubaix. A first-ride review of that wider model is available.
The GP 5000 TT TR also received a wider option, with a 30mm size added alongside the previously available 25mm and 28mm variants.
Meanwhile, Continental’s four-season GP 5000 AS TR comes in a broad selection of widths: 25mm, 28mm, 32mm and 35mm.
Just last month, Conti revealed a 32mm version of its Aero 111 front tyre, recognizable by its 48 vortex generator slots set into an otherwise smooth tread pattern.
Hannah Ferle, road product manager at Continental, explained the reasoning behind the expansion: “We are always striving to develop tyres to meet riders’ needs and ensure they are all catered for, which is why we are introducing the Grand Prix in a 32mm as part of our expansion of the portfolio in 2026.
“We recognise the shift in consumer preferences and will continue to expand our product offering this year.”
This statement hints that Continental has more wide tyre options planned, potentially adding a 35mm width to both the tubeless and tube-type Grand Prix ranges to complement the existing 35mm Grand Prix 5000 S TR.
Compared to some competitors, Continental has taken a more measured approach to wider tyres. Pirelli currently offers a 40mm width for its P Zero Race TLR, Goodyear introduced the 40mm Vector R XPLR last year, and René Herse’s slick tyres extend all the way to 55mm wide.
The new Continental Grand Prix 32mm tube-type tyre carries a recommended retail price of €45.95, matching the pricing of other widths in the range.
