HP Laptops Stuck on Boot Logo After Installing KB5121003 Windows 11 Update

A growing number of HP laptop users are reporting that their devices become stuck on the HP boot logo after installing the Windows 11 August cumulative update KB5121003. According to a report by the tech outlet NeoWin on September 14, 2026, the issue first surfaced on August 25, when a user named Grady posted on the Microsoft Community forum describing the problem on a newly purchased HP laptop. Since then, more than 20 users have confirmed experiencing similar failures, including owners of the OmniBook X Flip (model 14-KC0013DX) and other devices powered by AMD Ryzen AI 5 processors.

The affected machines fail to boot normally after the update is applied. Instead, the system automatically enters the Windows Recovery Environment, attempts repairs, and then rolls back the update. During this process, users encounter the error code 0x800f0845. The rollback typically restores the system to a working state, but the update itself cannot be successfully installed. Users have attempted a variety of troubleshooting steps, including running DISM commands and manually downloading the update package, but none of these measures have resolved the problem. Affected devices remain unable to complete the installation of KB5121003.

So far, Microsoft has not released an official fix or acknowledged the issue through its known-issues dashboard. HP has also remained silent on the matter. The exact scope of the problem is still unclear, but the reports suggest it may be specific to certain HP models with AMD Ryzen AI processors. Users are advised to pause the KB5121003 update until a permanent solution is available. This incident adds to a series of update-related issues that have plagued Windows 11 in recent months, raising further concerns about update quality control. Affected users are encouraged to share their experiences in community forums to help identify the root cause and push for a faster official response. As of now, the only workaround appears to be rolling back the update, which leaves devices running an older and potentially less secure version of Windows 11.
