Avatr 9 Series Debuts: Huawei Qiankun’s First Co-Created High-End Flagship SUV Redefines the Large Luxury SUV Segment

On September 8, the Avatr 9 Series officially appeared in the 411th batch of vehicle product filings published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The new model, codenamed T09 during development, has finally been unveiled. It should be noted that T09 is merely a filing code, and the official model name is the Avatr 9 Series. As the first high-end flagship SUV co-created under Huawei’s Qiankun initiative, and the first product to emerge from the full-scale joint design collaboration between Avatr and Huawei, the debut of the Avatr 9 Series represents far more than just another vehicle completing its regulatory filing process. It signals the arrival of a formidable new contender in China’s large luxury SUV segment above 500,000 yuan, where it will join forces with the Aito M9 to form Huawei’s dual-flagship lineup.

Avatr is introducing a dual design language strategy, with the 9 Series establishing a distinct aesthetic identity for the brand’s flagship line. While the current domestic large luxury SUV market has seen models like the Li Auto L9, Zeekr 9X, and NIO ES9 establish solid positions—each aggressively competing on space, power, and luxury—many still fall into one of two traps. Some prioritize family comfort at the expense of intelligent driving capabilities and chassis performance, while others stack performance specifications without a cohesive underlying architecture that integrates intelligent driving, chassis, and powertrain. The Avatr 9 Series aims to break free from the single-purpose family or performance label by offering a comprehensive flagship solution that balances business, family, and driving needs through an entirely new design language and a multi-mode intelligent control system.

Many consumers still associate Avatr with the futuristic, fastback, urban-sport styling of the Avatr 11 and 12. However, Avatr has confirmed that the 9 Series adopts a dual design language strategy, representing an entirely new aesthetic direction for the brand’s flagship offerings. The front fascia draws inspiration from ancient Chinese ceremonial vessels, evoking a sense of solemnity and authority. The grille incorporates Avatr’s logo elements, while the headlights continue the family DNA with diamond-cutting craftsmanship that delivers a jewelry-like play of light and shadow. This approach deliberately avoids the bulky, unrefined look common among large SUVs or the overly derivative styling that imitates overseas luxury brands. The side profile features full, flowing lines with semi-hidden door handles that balance aesthetics and aerodynamics, while the rear adopts a through-type floating taillight that echoes the diamond-cut design of the front lights.

According to MIIT filings, the vehicle will initially offer gray and platinum two-tone premium color schemes, with more exclusive premium paint options expected to be released later. The core value of this design goes beyond mere visual presence—it addresses a common pain point among domestic flagship SUVs: looking grandeur and luxurious yet carrying an indefinable sense of imitation. Instead, it carves out a distinctly Eastern sense of luxury. In terms of dimensions, the Avatr 9 Series measures 5,285mm in length, 2,025mm in width, and 1,810mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,150mm. Compared to the Li Auto L9 and Zeekr 9X, it holds advantages in both wheelbase and overall length, providing a solid foundation for multi-seat configurations and versatile scenarios ranging from business receptions to family travel.

The Avatr 9 Series is powered by an all-new intelligent super hybrid system, combining a 2.0T hybrid engine with a three-motor distributed electric drive setup, delivering a combined output exceeding 1,000 horsepower. The system can flexibly switch between range-extender, plug-in hybrid, and pure electric modes depending on the driving scenario. For urban commuting, pure electric mode suffices; for medium-to-long highway trips, plug-in hybrid mode takes over; and for extended cross-country journeys, the range-extender provides a safety net. The battery pack is a 71.24kWh CATL Freevoy super hybrid battery, offering a CLTC pure electric range of over 400km. While many hybrid flagships force customers to choose between pure electric performance and long-distance range, the Avatr 9 Series aims to eliminate that trade-off entirely.

According to currently available information, the Avatr 9 Series deeply integrates Huawei Qiankun ADS 5, the new Taixing intelligent control technology, and Huawei Qiankun XMC digital chassis technology for whole-vehicle deep fusion. In many vehicles on the market, intelligent driving, chassis, and vehicle control systems are developed by different teams, resulting in impressive hardware specifications but a fragmented overall experience. The Avatr 9 Series breaks down these barriers by connecting all three systems. Huawei Qiankun ADS 5, built on a new-generation four-lidar hardware architecture, handles high-level intelligent driving perception and decision-making. The new Taixing intelligent control technology brings distributed electric drive and closed dual-chamber air suspension, supporting rear-wheel steering and crab-walk mode for a minimum turning radius of approximately 4 meters. Huawei Qiankun XMC digital chassis technology uses proprietary algorithms for multimodal vehicle-road perception fusion and spatiotemporal AI suspension control, feeding road information to the intelligent driving system and relaying its predictions back to suspension adjustments for synchronized hardware-software collaboration. In real-world scenarios—whether on mountain roads, uneven terrain, or during cornering—all systems work in harmony rather than independently.

The positioning of the Avatr 9 Series above the Avatr 11 and 12 is unmistakable, with pricing expected to exceed 500,000 yuan based on its comprehensive hardware configuration. However, the domestic large SUV market above 500,000 yuan is already crowded, and competing on specifications alone is no longer sufficient. The Avatr 9 Series competes on the strength of its independent design language for the new high-end series, its four-power-source three-mode super hybrid system, and its three-in-one intelligent vehicle control, targeting high-net-worth customers who value chassis dynamics, handling, intelligent driving, power, business utility, family practicality, and long-distance travel capability. In the market, the Avatr 9 Series will join the Aito M9 to form Huawei’s dual-flagship lineup. While the Aito M9 leans toward all-around balance for both family and business use, the Avatr 9 Series, built on Avatr’s dedicated vehicle platform and Taixing chassis architecture, places greater emphasis on handling and performance.

Avatr Technology President Chen Zhuo stated that the Avatr 9 Series is the first high-end flagship product from the full-scale collaboration between Avatr and Huawei. The term “full-scale” here represents a fundamental departure from previous Avatr models. Vehicle styling, color schemes, and numerous details were jointly created by both parties. This means the vehicle is no longer merely a matter of procuring certain components—it reflects end-to-end joint development from the ground up. The Avatr 9 Series has now entered the public filing stage and is scheduled for an official launch in the fourth quarter. As competition in the high-end large SUV segment intensifies, the market performance of the Avatr 9 Series in the above-500,000-yuan luxury SUV space will be well worth watching.
