Xiaomi’s Pengcheng N70 Pro Starts at 209,900 RMB, Max Version Priced at 239,900 RMB
Xiaomi has officially unveiled its latest electric vehicle lineup, the Pengcheng N70 Pro series, with a starting price of 209,900 RMB (approximately $29,000). The top-tier Pengcheng N70 Pro Max is priced at 239,900 RMB (around $33,000), positioning the models as competitive entries in China’s rapidly growing premium EV segment.
The announcement was made during a launch event held earlier this week, where Xiaomi’s automotive division highlighted the vehicles’ advanced engineering and user-centric design. The N70 Pro base model comes equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, offering a combined output of 425 horsepower and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 4.9 seconds. The car is built on Xiaomi’s proprietary electric platform, which supports fast charging—adding up to 300 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes using a 500 kW ultra-fast charger.
The standard N70 Pro features a 94.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, delivering a CLTC-rated range of 720 kilometers on a single charge. Inside, the cabin is dominated by a 16.2-inch central touchscreen running Xiaomi’s HyperOS interface, which seamlessly integrates with the company’s broader ecosystem of smart devices, including smartphones, smart home appliances, and wearables. Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are standard, with 29 sensors, including lidar and ultrasonic radars, enabling Level 2+ autonomous driving capabilities on highways and urban roads.
For the N70 Pro Max, Xiaomi adds several premium upgrades. These include a larger 100.5 kWh battery, boosting the range to 830 kilometers (CLTC), and adaptive air suspension with electronically controlled dampers for improved ride comfort. The Max also gains an upgraded interior with Nappa leather upholstery, a 14-speaker immersive audio system co-developed with a leading audio brand, and a head-up display with augmented reality navigation cues. Additionally, the Max variant includes Xiaomi’s autonomous parking system that can remember and replicate complex parking maneuvers in private garages.
Both models are now available for pre-order through Xiaomi’s online store and select retail experience centers across major Chinese cities, with deliveries expected to begin in early August. Industry analysts note that the pricing undercuts several rivals, such as the Tesla Model Y Long Range and NIO’s ES6, while offering comparable or superior range figures—a strategy that could accelerate Xiaomi’s penetration into the EV market, which the company entered formally only last year.
Xiaomi’s move into automobiles is part of a broader diversification strategy, leveraging its strong brand loyalty among consumer electronics users. The company has already invested over 10 billion RMB in EV research and development, including a dedicated battery lab and autonomous driving testing facility. With the N70 Pro series, Xiaomi aims to capture a share of the mid-to-high-end EV market, which has seen intensifying competition from both established automakers and new entrants.
The launch also underscores the growing trend of technology firms entering the automotive space, following similar moves by Huawei and Baidu. Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, Lei Jun, reiterated during the event that the vehicles are not just “smartphones on wheels” but integrated mobility solutions designed to offer a seamless digital lifestyle. He emphasized that future over-the-air updates will bring continuous feature enhancements, ensuring that owners’ vehicles improve over time.
Early reactions from automotive reviewers have been largely positive, praising the vehicle’s build quality, software sophistication, and value-for-money proposition. Some experts, however, have raised questions about post-sales service infrastructure and the company’s ability to scale production to meet anticipated demand. Xiaomi claims its manufacturing facility in Beijing has an annual capacity of 200,000 units, with plans to expand should initial orders exceed expectations.
As the EV market becomes increasingly crowded, the success of the Pengcheng N70 Pro will depend not only on its technical merits but also on Xiaomi’s ability to build trust in its automotive offerings and deliver a reliable ownership experience. With competitive pricing and a suite of cutting-edge features, the N70 Pro series marks a bold step in Xiaomi’s journey from consumer electronics giant to full-fledged car manufacturer.
