On September 5, Raying Inspection Technology (Jinan) Co., Ltd. officially unveiled its self-developed XTOMO-CUBE series micro CT system. Weighing just 6 kilograms in total, the device is currently the world’s smallest and lightest CT system by both size and weight, with all core components manufactured domestically in China.

The system operates with an X-ray source tube voltage of 50kVp and features a detector pixel size of 18.5 micrometers, achieving a scanning field of view 16 millimeters in diameter. Despite its compact form, the device can produce clear three-dimensional images of tiny samples such as chicken bones, snail shells, and capsule tablets, revealing intricate internal structures with remarkable detail.

The XTOMO-CUBE integrates proprietary software developed in-house, enabling seamless data acquisition, image reconstruction, and 3D volume rendering. This makes it a versatile tool suited for a wide range of applications, including on-site archaeological excavations, field geological surveys, and university-level CT teaching experiments.

The launch marks a significant step forward in making advanced CT imaging technology accessible, portable, and fully independent of foreign supply chains. By miniaturizing the system to a handheld scale and ensuring all critical components are locally sourced, the company aims to address practical challenges faced by researchers and educators who require high-resolution imaging outside traditional laboratory settings.

Industry experts note that the development of such a lightweight yet powerful CT system opens new possibilities for real-time, in-field analysis, reducing the need to transport fragile or sensitive specimens to centralized imaging facilities. The system’s user-friendly design and automated workflows also lower the barrier for non-specialists to conduct professional-grade tomographic studies.

In addition to its compact hardware, the XTOMO-CUBE’s software suite supports multiple imaging modes and provides intuitive visual outputs, allowing users to rotate, slice, and measure reconstructed volumes with ease. The device is expected to find applications not only in academic research but also in quality control, materials science, and heritage conservation, where detailed internal inspection is crucial.

Raying Inspection Technology emphasized that the launch of XTOMO-CUBE reflects the company’s commitment to advancing China’s precision instrument industry through continuous innovation. The system is now available for purchase, and the company plans to offer tailored configurations to meet the specific needs of different research fields. Early pilot users, including several universities and archaeological institutes, have already reported successful imaging results with the device in both indoor and outdoor environments, further validating its reliability and versatility.
