JD Industrial Delivers Emergency Supplies to Tibet’s Shigatse After Mudslide Disaster
On August 26, a devastating mudslide originating from the Nepalese side struck the Gyirong Port area in Gyirong County, Shigatse City, Tibet, causing significant casualties and leaving several people missing. The disaster has drawn widespread concern across the nation, with rescue operations now underway in an orderly manner.
In response to the urgent needs of the disaster zone, JD Industrial mobilized swiftly, donating professional equipment including demolition and excavation tools, as well as waterproof protective gear. The supplies arrived at the Gyirong rescue frontline at 4 PM on August 30 and were successfully handed over to local government authorities.
Following the mudslide, JD.com activated its emergency response protocol immediately. After receiving specific requirements from the rescue frontline at 11 AM on August 29, JD Industrial promptly assessed the most critical supplies needed and coordinated rapid dispatch from two major warehouses—one in Tibet and another in Chengdu—with donations facilitated through JD Foundation.
The donated materials were precisely tailored to address frontline operations such as river dredging, structural demolition, and nighttime rescue efforts. The shipment included specialized excavation tools, waterproof protective equipment, personal protective gear, and mobile lighting devices. Through efficient cross-departmental collaboration within JD.com, the first batch of donated supplies was loaded onto trucks at JD Logistics’ Lhasa warehouse on the evening of August 29. Despite heavy rain, the dedicated vehicles departed immediately for the disaster-stricken Gyirong area. Concurrently, JD Industrial’s deep-rooted partnerships proved invaluable—a batch of lighting equipment shipped directly from a local manufacturer partner also reached the frontline on August 30.
Earlier, on the night of August 26, guided by fire and rescue departments in Chengdu, JD Logistics’ Sichuan-Tibet regional division had already responded rapidly. They dispatched multiple trucks at no cost, transporting a batch of emergency rescue supplies to Chengdu Shuangliu Airport overnight, ensuring the fastest possible airlift to the Shigatse disaster zone.
JD Health also maintained close attention to the well-being of frontline rescuers and family members traveling to Tibet, urgently sourcing and donating a supply of medications specifically suited for high-altitude conditions.
Notably, JD.com founder and board chairman Richard Liu had previously established an internal policy: whenever a disaster occurs anywhere in the country, managers at JD’s nearest warehouses have the authority to donate disaster-relief supplies from inventory without seeking prior approval. Additionally, JD.com consistently establishes emergency support teams to guarantee dedicated vehicle transport for relief materials.
Since 2026, JD.com’s “Super Supply Chain” infrastructure and emergency response capabilities have been tested on multiple occasions, consistently ensuring that essential living supplies and professional rescue materials reach affected regions in the shortest possible time.
A representative from JD Industrial stated: “We will continue responding to government requirements, leveraging our robust digital and intelligent industrial supply chain capabilities to allocate resources and support the disaster zone. Through JD.com’s Super Supply Chain, JD Industrial remains committed to fulfilling its long-term social responsibilities.”
Moving forward, JD.com will maintain close coordination with the regional government of the Tibet Autonomous Region, following government guidance to ensure the continued deployment and transportation of relief supplies. The company is dedicated to contributing to both ongoing rescue operations and post-disaster reconstruction efforts in the Shigatse region.
