Gamescom 2026 Closes with CD Projekt RED and Sega Leading Award Winners

Gamescom 2026 officially came to a close on August 30 in Cologne, Germany, marking another year of celebrating the finest achievements in the global video game industry. During this year's event, a total of 19 official awards were handed out across three main categories—Art, Platform, and Global—recognizing outstanding contributions in areas such as visual design, audio, gameplay mechanics, platform-specific titles, and booth presentation.
CD Projekt RED and Sega emerged as the night's biggest winners, each taking home three coveted awards. The Polish studio, known for its richly detailed role-playing games, saw its titles repeatedly singled out by juries and audiences alike. Sega, meanwhile, demonstrated its continued cross-genre dominance with a strong showing across multiple categories, solidifying its reputation as one of the industry's most versatile publishers.
Among the standout winners in the artistic categories were Metro 2039, Alien: Isolation 2, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. These titles were praised for pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling and atmosphere. Metro 2039, developed by a team widely regarded for its masterful use of lighting and environmental detail, captured the jury's attention with its post-apocalyptic world and meticulous art direction. Alien: Isolation 2 continued the franchise's legacy of tension-driven design, earning recognition for its sound production and terrifyingly immersive audio landscape. Onimusha: Way of the Sword, meanwhile, returned to the spotlight with sharp combat animation and a distinctive visual style that resonated strongly with the judging panel.
One of the most notable highlights of the evening was the performance of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Old Times, a new expansion that swept the ceremony with three individual honors. The title won Best Booth (Jury Award), recognizing the elaborate and immersive presentation that CD Projekt RED crafted for attendees at their trade show exhibit. In addition, it also captured Best Merchandise and Best Trailer (Consumers' Choice Award), underlining the expansion's appeal not only on a creative level but also in its broader fan engagement and product extension.
The awards were structured around three broader groupings: Art, Platform, and Global. The Art category celebrated achievements in visual and audio craftsmanship, as well as narrative and design innovation. The Platform category focused on titles that leveraged specific hardware capabilities, including exclusive features and technical accomplishments on console and PC ecosystems. The Global category, meanwhile, encompassed cross-platform releases and performances that had wide-reaching impact on the industry as a whole.
Beyond the winners themselves, Gamescom 2026 served as a significant industry gathering, attracting developers, publishers, journalists, and fans from around the world. Held at the Koelnmesse exhibition center, the event continued to serve as a key calendar date for companies looking to showcase upcoming projects and connect with international audiences. The show's awards are considered among the most credible in the games industry, due to the breadth of judges involved and the diverse criteria evaluated.
This year's ceremony once again highlighted the diversity and resilience of the gaming sector, showcasing how creative teams continue to innovate in storytelling, technology, and player experience. Many of the winning titles represented long-awaited sequels, new intellectual properties, and ambitious technical showcases, reflecting a healthy balance between established franchises and fresh ideas.
As the industry looks ahead to another year of development cycles and upcoming releases, Gamescom remains a crucial event for measuring both current trends and future directions. The winners of Gamescom 2026 will no doubt continue to shape conversations around quality and excellence in game design as the year progresses.
